Disk jockeying known as “DJ” is an art, and over the years this art has undergone tremendous evolution. The highest paid DJ earns at least 250,000 dollars for performing a night’s work; such is the magnitude of change that swept the DJ industry. Like in most things in life dedication and discipline remains paramount for one to reach the top echelons of the disk jockey business. The majority of leading DJs started from very humble beginnings and through sheer hard work make more in a night than most of us make in a year. Currently, the music scene is littered with DJs for all kinds of music and genres; drum, house and techno DJs just to name a few, but only a select amount can lay claim to the title of the best DJ. Below is a list of the leading DJs in todays music scene. Popularity and earning power played a huge role in consideration to appear on this list.

1. Calvin Harris

Calvin’s broke into the music scene back in 2007 and has been nothing short of a revelation. Perhaps Scotland’s most significant export after whiskey, Calvin has dominated both dance and pop music genres. Calvin’s strength lies in the exceptional singing talent that saw him take the UK music scene by storm after the release of his first album I Created Studio. The album featured two hit singles, “The Girls” and “Acceptable” in the 80’s” that made it into the top 10 in the UK charts. Calvin, a Grammy award winning artist, topped the list of the highest-earning DJs for three consecutive years between 2013 and 2015 according to Forbes. He is well known all over the world for his unique sound.

2. Skrillex

Often cited as the King of the Grammys, Skrillex, an electronic dance music DJ, musician, singer, and DJ, holds the record for most Grammy wins; nine in total. Being an Electronic Dance Artist, he holds the record of most Grammy awards, a total of nine. Skrillex bust into the scene by distributing free EP’s and saw his efforts rewarded as he went on to work for some of the most successful musicians in recent times. Among the personalities Skrillex has worked with include; Justin Bieber for his hits “Sorry” and “Where Are U Now,” Rick Ross’s in “Purple Lamborghini” and The Game’s “El Chapo” just to name a few.

3. Tiesto

Being on the scene for three decades may take a toll on most people but not Tiesto. This record producer/DJ has taken consistency and hard work to a whole new level. Tiesto’s style comprises a blend of old trances and pop that thrills the sprouting generation of fans. Tiesto earned a mouthwatering $22m and $39m in 2014 and 2016 respectively according to Forbes. Tiesto was accorded the key to Las Vegas city and the day was dubbed “Tiesto Day” in Nevada. In 2015, Tiesto was accorded a Grammy in the category of Best Remixed Recording for the remix of “All of Me” by John Legend.
